What is the Greater Washington Sports Alliance?

Established in 2003, The Greater Washington Sports Alliance (GWSA) is a regional non-profit sports commission created to foster economic development and civic pride through the power of sports.

 

Who Does GWSA Benefit?

GWSA’s work directly benefits regional residents, businesses and governments of the National Capital region. Through the work of its community arm (GWSA Foundation), regional youth organizations use sports to enhance education, encourage physical fitness and develop leadership skills.

 

What are the GWSA’s primary funding sources?

Funding for GWSA comes from three areas:
1) Events - Sporting & Developmental
2) Grants - Economic Development, Tourism, Youth Investment
3) Contributions - Corporate, Private, Major Sports Franchises

 

What major events are GWSA currently involved with?

Anthem Great Pumpkin 5K, Army-Navy Football Game, Capitol Hill Volleyball Classic, Chesapeake Crossing and Bash at the Bay, Dominion Trail Mix, 2013 NAGAAA Gay Softball World Series, Rock ‘n’ Roll USA Marathon, and the 2015 World Police and Fire Games
